Well this is exciting news.
The big guy himself is coming to National City. It has been announced that Superman will appear in the first 2 episodes of Supergirl‘s 2nd season on it’s new network, The CW. The role of the Man of Steel has not yet been cast but was announced via press release.
“We are currently in the casting process for this role,” Warner Bros. TV announced, making it clear that it will not be big screen Superman, Henry Cavill in the role.
“Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.
To be clear this is not the first time that the character of Superman has appeared on Supergirl, but this will be the first time that there is an actor in the role. The character has previously appeared as CGI from a distance or blurred out by the sun, so as not to reveal his face. Clark Kent also gave Kara advice via instant messenger throughout the first season.
Superman will be joining Supergirl just as the show switches from CBS to The CW, joining the DCTV lineup of Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. The network has already announced a 4-show crossover event, slated for end of this year. Supergirl currently exists on an alternate Earth from the other three shows, but thanks to The Flash’s actions in that show’s season finale’s we be seeing a reason for the show’s to somehow merge into one universe.
In regards to casting, we’ll just have to wait and see. We will likely hear something in the coming weeks as San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner.
