Vixen will be joining Legends of Tomorrow in it’s second season, but according to TVInsider, she won’t be played by Megalyn Echikunwoke who has previously appeared on Arrow as the character and voices the character in The CW Seed’s Vixen animated show. Instead, reports say that a previous Vixen will be plucked out of time to join the crew of the Waverider.
The decision was made due to Echikunwoke’s lack of availability. She is a busy working actress who currently has multiple films projects in the works. The producers want to use the character but didn’t want to recast the role. The CW has instead decided to have the Legends crew pluck a new Vixen out of time. Vixen’s powers are tied to at totem that is passed down across generations, so choosing a previous Vixen should not be an issue.
At the CW up fronts, Echikunwoke spoke about returning the character to live action on any of the shows, claiming that there had already “been conversations” about it. The second season of Vixen’s animated season on The CW Seed is already in the works.
“It’s all based on what the capacity for the CW is, what my availability is, it’s a lot of things,” Echikunwoke said. “And Vixen’s really special so they want to find the right space for her.”
“I’m open to any type of development of Vixen in live-action,” she said. “I think the fans are there, and they deserve to have this character. They want this character. She’s really special, and an important part of the DC Universe, so I don’t see why she shouldn’t have the spotlight.”
